Clean re-install of XP Pro

by Alxndr » Thu, 24 Jul 2003 00:59:08 GMT

Is there a way to do a real re-install of XP pro
without leaving remnants of previous software like
what I just did. Didn't really clean all coz the
files and folder are still there. Did I miss something in
the process? My first time.

Thanks.

Follow the New Install option. When it asks you to confirm where you
want to put the system, hit ESC and select and delete the current
partition before making a new one to be formatted next. That ensures
that it *does* get formatted. With an Upgrade CD you will then be asked
where Windows is, and at that point can show setup the CD of the
'qualifying product' in the drive for a moment. An OEM 'restore' CD
that comes with a machine will not be recognised for that purpose though
- on such systems you have to start from that, as restored, and either
do an upgrade again, or follow the same line of ESC and delete, by which
point the check that you are eligible has been made
