XP problem logging into NT network

    - can't stop motherboard beeping
      
      I recently downloaded something from C/Net and since then
      the transducer on my motherboard beeps (like a boot-beep)
      every few minutes quite randomly and doesn't stop, even
      when the computer is idle. Re-boot or re-start doesn't
      stop it. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition on a Celeron
      powered Gatweway. I checked my Startup directory and
      there's nothing in it. I did a full virus scan and a
      Spybot scan - no viruses and no adware/spyware. I doubt
      it has anything to do with the software I downloaded from
      C/Net. Please help - it's driving me nuts.

    - How to get icons only in user-created toolbar
      I have created my own toolbar on the taskbar. However, each item shows an
      icon plus the name of the shortcut file. This makes each item about 6 times
      as large as the icon-only items on the Quick Launch toolbar. How can I get
      Explorer to show nothing but the icons? That's the way it worked in Win2K.

      I keep getting this message upon boot up. It says
      C:\winnt\system32\msvfw.dll is not a valid windows image.
      Along with this one...dde server window: msnmsgr.exe bad
      image.
      What does this mean? And how do I fix this??

      Shouldn't I be able to login to the non-domain computer when prompted
      using the COMPUTERNAME\LoginName method?
      
      If my home was setup to use a domain, for example "DomainHome",
      shouldn't anyone be able to login to a file share using
      DomainHome\UserName ?
      
      I can connect to the C$ share on my work laptop from my home machines
      using WorkDomain\UserName, why wouldn't this work in reverse?
      
      Maybe it is only a 1 way method... nondomain to domain enabled.
      
      Let me pose this question. If you have a computer that belongs to
      WorkDomain, could you login to access a file share on another domain
      if when prompted you enter your credentials as
      AnotherDomain\MyOtherAccount ?

    - LPD service support & setup on Win XP Pro
      Hello Win XP forum teams,
      
      Could you pls advise, whether or not LPD print services are supported on Win
      XP Pro platform?
      In Win 2000 platform LPD utility is included in Print Services for UNIX
      which provides both LPR and LPD servives
      and enables Win 2k to act as Unix Print Server?
      According to the following MSDN help site:

      The LPD service is embedded in Win XP platform? But there is no reference
      about how to setup.

    - Cannot downdate modem driver
      OK, it is an old PCI modem with an unsigned driver on the accompanying
      CD.
      I put it in my XP system, said I had the driver on a CD, and it all
      worked just fine.
      Then I decided to dump the 10gig drive C and fit an 80gig one. Since I
      did not know how to copy the XP system from the old drive to the new
      (separate answers to this one welcomed), I did a clean install of XP.
      This time, XP chose a driver during the install which was later than
      the one on CD. It doesn't work, and there is no way to persuade XP to
      swap the driver for the earlier working one.
      I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling from CD, even
      pulling the modem out of the system and reinstalling it several boots
      later, XP ends up with the later driver whatever I do.
      I guess a clean install of XP with the modem pulled would do it, after
      all it worked last time, but surely there is another way ?

XP problem logging into NT network

I am administering a NT4 network & just recently installed a new XPsp1 PC.
Upon login, it takes over 2 minutes to actually log into the network.
During this time, only a blank desktop & a curser is displayed. Also I get
these two errors every time in the event viewer:

I have other XPsp1 PCs on the network which do not have these problems.
I've double-checked & all of the network settings are the same on the
working PCs & the one with the problem. I have also followed KB289650 which
did not help. I tried manually setting the DNS but this also did not help.
The problem occurs regardless of what user I log in as.

Any help would be appreciated.

      Could someone be so kind to explain me on how to recover from drive
      format ?
      
      It goes about a logical drive placed into the extended partition. The
      drive is not "mounted", that mean it is not yet visible in Windows
      Explorer. I can only access it through PowerQuest Partition Magic,
      that can also browse the drive.
      
      The drive is 29GB in total and 14MB are used in a system directory
      called "System Volume Information". Only one subdirectory appears
      "_recover...".
      
      Is it still possible to recover my mistake ? Is there any procedure to
      recover the drive safely ?

      I installed a copy of xp successfully on drive c. Got access to my NFS
      Drive. Copied by data from c to d and recovered the c drive using the
      recovery cd.
      
      Then verified the drive without errors.
