unrecognised soundcard

Hi everyone,

A couple of days ago I lost all sound on my system (
except for bleeps ) XP does not recognise my sound device
( Avance AC97 Audio ) I have tried uninstalling the
device and drivers and reinstalling. I have done system
restore and uninstalled the last few programs i
installed. All to no avail. I have also noticed that
start up programs on mty taskbar are no longer loading,
could this be related?

Any help would be appreciated. I cannot use recovery
panel on xp as software came preinstalled with a total
recovery cd only.

Thanks in advance!

Without the xp cd it doesnt give you many options, however in hardware mgr.
sounds, under the icon uninstall all, exit out, shutdown computer. You might on restar
chk youre BIOS,advanced chip-set configuration,make sure AC97 is checked,the
save changes and exit,if it is checked,on exit page,select,load set-up defaults,then sav
changes and exit.XP will reinstall all sound configurations on restart,as it does on every reboot.
